Prof. Theodoros L. Karavasilis (Group Leader)

Mini-CV: Theodoros was born in Arta, Greece (1979). He joined the Dept. of Civil Engineering of the Univ. of Patras in 2018 (election in the scientific field of “Design of Steel Structures”). Previously, he was Professor (Chair in Structures and Structural Mechanics) at the Univ. of Southampton, UK (2016-2019); Associate Professor (2014-2015) and Assistant Professor (2012-2013) in Structural Engineering at the Univ. of Warwick, UK; Dept. Lecturer (fixed-term position) in Civil Engineering at the Univ. of Oxford, UK (2010-2011); and Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the ATLSS Research Centre of Lehigh Univ., PA, U.S.A. (2007-2009).  He is subject (seismic design of structures) Editor of the Elsevier Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering Journal; participates in national and international scientific working groups and committees; is member of the editorial boards of the Steel and Composite Structures & Earthquakes and Structures Journals; has supervised a large number of PhDs and Post-Docs (four of them are now faculty members in leading Universities in the UK); has published more than 50 papers in Journals; and delivered several keynote and invited talks worldwide. He has extensive experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on steel structures. He is a chartered structural engineer in Greece since 2002. He provides consultancy for design projects in Greece, Europe and Asia.

Dr Dafni Pantousa  (Post-Doctoral Research Associate)

Dr Pantousa holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (2003), an MSc in Civil Engineering (2006), and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering (2013). She obtained her PhD degree in 2013 from the University of Thessaly by defending a thesis on post-earthquake fire performance of steel moment resisting frames. After her PhD, she worked as Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering of University of Thessaly for two years. In 2017 she joined the University of Southampton to work on her Marie-Curie Fellowship (Resilient steel structures under fire and seismic actions) under the supervision of Prof. Karavasilis . As part of her Marie-Curie Contract at the University of Southampton, Dafni served as Lecturer and Laboratory instructor on topics related to Structural Engineering. In 2019 she joined the Steel Structures Research and Design Group at the University of Patras to work on fracture of steel at elevated temperatures and on an externally funded project on post-fire seismic performance of steel structures.

Nikolaos G. Skretas (PhD Candidate)

Nikos was born in Athens, Greece (1993). He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (2016) an an MSc in Earthquake Engineering and Earthquake Resistant Structures from the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Patras, Greece. Nikos is the recipient of a Postgraduate Research Scholarship from the Bodossaki Foundation both for his MSc and and PhD studies. He is conducting research on low-damage seismic-resistant steel structures under the supervision of Prof. Karavasilis. His interests include seismic design and assessment of steel structures, design of seismic isolation and energy dissipation systems, and object-oriented programming for nonlinear structural analysis.

Andreas Zervas (PhD Candidate)

Andreas was born in Athens, Greece (1992). He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (2015) and an MSc in Earthquake Engineering and Earthquake Resistant Structures (2017) both from the Dept. of Civil Engineering of the Univ. of Patras. He received awards from the Limmat Foundation and the Technical Chamber of Greece based on the ranking of graduates of the Dept. of Civil Engineering of the Univ. of Patras for the academic year 2014-2015. Andreas is conducting research on the advanced nonlinear analysis and design of seismic-resistant steel structures under the supervision of Prof. Karavasilis. His interests include the design and assessment of steel structures utilizing low-damage technologies, the design of base isolation and energy dissipation systems, as well as the object-oriented programming for nonlinear structural analysis.

Stylianos I. Masouras (PhD Candidate)

Stylianos was born in Athens, Greece (1988). He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (2011) from the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Patras. He has also two Masters of Science (MSc) from the postgraduate programs “Analysis and Design of Earthquake Resistant Structures” (2012) and “Applied Mechanics” (2018) that are offered by the National Technical University of Athens. His PhD research focuses on advanced nonlinear analysis and design of earthquake-resistant structures and is conducted under the supervision of Professor Karavasilis. His  interests include bridge engineering, advanced simulation techniques and design of off-shore steel structures.
